En esta época, se desarrollan diversas tradiciones y auguriospara despedir el año, siendo una de las más arraigadas el «Año Viejo», un muñeco confeccionado con ropa vieja, aserrín y periódicos, que se quema faltando cinco para las 12 y dar la bienvenida al nuevo año.
Con el pasar del tiempo, el personaje del «Año Viejo» ha ido perdiendo relevancia. Sin embargo, desde el año 2021, las hermanas Ortiz Peñas emprendieron una iniciativa para revivir esta auténtica tradición colombiana durante la temporada de fin de año.
Kerlly, Yuranis y Yaneris, junto con su hijo de 11 años, Zaid Chajin Ortiz, encontraron inspiración para crear a Don Cuquin, un pequeño y significativo personaje que cuenta con tres años de estar llevando esperanza a los hogares colombianos. Este emprendimiento se ha convertido en el epicentro de la alegría y la tradición, inundando los hogares con una energía festiva única para despedir el año.
La tradición de Don Cuquin se arraiga en las raíces culturales de algunas regiones de Colombia. Este peculiar personaje despierta una mística al despedir el 31 de diciembre, marcando el inicio del nuevo año al encender sus llamas. Este acto simboliza la purificación y la eliminación del pasado, abriendo paso a la regeneración del tiempo y las energías. Es un espectáculo que allana el camino hacia la buena suerte en el año venidero.
Más que un simple emprendimiento, Don Cuquin, con su auténtico toque barranquillero, ofrece la oportunidad de sumergirse en la esencia misma de una tradición arraigada.
